Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the Bingfeng Ridge of Zhongzaniuchang, 60 km to the southeast of the Batang County Town, Sichuan Province. It was named by the No. 3 Regional Geological Reconnainssance Party under the Geological Bureau of Sichuan Province in 1974.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Light-grey to dark-grey medium-bedded limestone, oolitic limestone, basalt and a small amount of lenticular hematite ore layers. Thickness is 181.6 m

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Ranlang Fm.

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Chidantan Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Batang area of Sichuan Province and in the Zhongdian area of Yunnan Province, with its thickness of 900 m in the Zhongdian area, intercalated with tuffaceous slate.

Fusulinida represented by Pseudodoliolina, Neoschwagerina, Verbeekina and Sumatrina.

Corals represented by Iranophyllum, Waagenophyllum, Wentzelella, etc.
